Erika Topola is the new Executive Director of Heritage Calgary
On behalf of the Board of Directors, Heritage Calgary is proud to announce that Erika Topola has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Heritage Calgary.
Erika brings nearly two decades of leadership experience at the intersection of history, community development, and business strategy. With a B.A. in Art History & Fine Arts from the University of Saskatchewan, a Masters in Community Development from the University of Victoria, and an MBA in Entrepreneurship Management from the Australia Institute for Business, she combines academic expertise with a deep passion for preserving Calgary’s cultural legacy.
Erika has served in pivotal roles across the public, nonprofit, and corporate sectors, including leadership at Trico Centre for Family Wellness, ATB Financial, and the City of Calgary. A former Director with the Calgary Heritage Authority and the Acadia Community Association, she has been recognized with awards such as the Federation of Calgary Communities’ Faces of Community Award for her outstanding volunteer leadership. Known for building strong partnerships, driving operational excellence, and championing inclusive community engagement, Erika is dedicated to ensuring Heritage Calgary continues to protect and promote the city’s historic places for generations to come.
Outside of work, Erika has always lived an active and creative life. She grew up competing in gymnastics, track and field, and ballet at high levels, and today she’s an avid marathon runner and triathlete. A lifetime snowboarder, she’s now taking on the challenge of learning to ski. Alongside her athletic pursuits, Erika runs a small arts business that allows her to express her creativity. Life is never dull as the proud mom of three energetic boys and two elegant cats, and when she’s not on the go, she loves discovering new foods, traveling to new destinations, and enjoying a great glass of wine.
