Inventory Updates: Hillhurst United Church

 

On December 11, 2020 the Heritage Calgary board approved the following site to be updated to the Inventory of Evaluated Historic Resources.

Re-evaluated as a City Wide Historic Resource

The Hillhurst Presbyterian Church, completed in 1912-13, has high symbolic value as an inviting and inclusive community institution that has served the religious and communal needs of Calgary for over a century (Symbolic Value – City Wide Significance).

Hillhurst Presbyterian Church is further significant for its style value as a picturesque and highly intact example of an Arts and Crafts-style church, incorporating aspects of both Tudor and Gothic Revival styles (Style Value – City Wide Significance).

Hillhurst Presbyterian Church also has landmark value due to its highly prominent siting visible down 12 Street NW from Kensington Avenue as well as its whimsical and highly intact Arts and Crafts architectural style (Landmark Value – Neighbourhood Wide Significance)
